FAQ 6: What is RFID?
A: RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is the latest supply 
chain tracking technology in the industry.  The technology
has been around since the 70's but its high utilization cost 
has so far prevented its mass acceptance by the
commercial sector.  Now, with Walmart, Target, Gillette and 
other giant retailers supporting the use of RFID, many 
manufacturers are evaluating and some, moving towards
the implementation of RFID tracking systems into their 
supply chain production.  RFID simply allows for more
information to be processed compared to the traditional 
2-D (even 3-D) bar codes.  Active RFID tags will even allow

FAQ 5: What is the X-ray exam for?
A: Since 2003, US Customs has implemented a security
program that uses sophisticated, non-intrusive X-ray 
machines to examine ocean containers at major ports.
If your container has been selected for X-ray exam, be
aware of the additional exam fee (est. USD115) and 
delay in release by Customs.

FAQ 4: We ship ocean containers from Beijing - but 
shipper sends Bill of Lading indicating the port of Xingang.
What is the difference, if any?
A: Tianjin's port of Xingang is the primary seaport for 
shipments from Beijing.  (Note: Be clear on trade terms with
the factory in specifying the port of loading)

FAQ 3: Do I need to file AMS for my shipments to the USA?  
A: All shipments must be manifested overseas via AMS at least 
24 hours prior to departure.  AMS can be filed by the carrier, 
NVOCC.

FAQ 2: How do we calculate volume weight for air cargo? 
A: Volume weight can easily be determined by the 
following formula: 
Vol Wt in LB: [Length (in) x Width (in) x Height (in)] /166

FAQ 1: What is a CBM?
ANS: CBM stands for cubic meter.  In ocean cargo, 
CBM is the metric system unit used to measure the 
volume dimension of a shipment.
